Information about people and places from around the world.  Broken into three sections:  World Edition (intended for students in grades 6-12), Kids Edition (World Edition for students in grades K-5), and States Edition.   Also has a variety of other resources including information about famous people, recipes, and photographs.

Discovery Atlas
Part of Discovery Streaming.  Has detailed information about people and places from around the world.  Includes photographs and movies.

Encyclopedia Britannica
Atlas for Elementary Students provided by Badgerlink. 

Fact Monster
Reference site that includes an almanac, encyclopedia, and dictionary. The United States section provides maps, important documents in history, and information about cities and states, population, government structure, and even different laws and timelines of U.S. history. The World section covers countries of the world, current events, world history, natural disasters, wars, geography, and different religions. Site includes games related to maps, matching animals to their natural habitats, social studies word search puzzles, and news.  Site includes advertisements unless have paid subscription.

Social Studies for Kids

Includes articles, subjects, and links to social studies related topics.  Includes a history story, current event, and information about upcoming holidays or events on the main page.  Contains some advertisements.

Time for Kids
Current news from around the world for students in grades K-6.

World Book Online
Online reference center.  Includes an atlas and encyclopedia.  There is also a special section (explore top tab) on Wisconsin.

Explorers - 5th Grade Curriculum

  • Enchanted Learning
    Includes brief biographical information about a variety of explorers.  Some explorers have links to other sites.

Geography - 5th Grade Curriculum

  • Google Earth
    Allows you to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, and 3D buildings from anywhere in the world.  Users can explore geographical content, save toured places, and share the information with others.  Note: this website includes software that needs to be downloaded.  It is included on most of the computers within the buildings.  Please talk to your building ETC if you are interested in using this program and do not have access.

    Interactive maps to learn continents, countries, states, capitals, borders, physical features and cultural monuments.  Note: this website includes software that needs to be downloaded.  Please talk to your building ETC if you are interested in using the programs at school.
  • Play Kids Games
    Interactive jigsaw puzzles of States, Countries, and Continents.
  • Sheppard Software
    Includes free, interactive map games that test your knowledge of states, capitals, and landscapes of the United States.  There are a variety of levels from Tutorial which allows users to learn the information by clicking on points on a map to Cartographer.  (Note: Mac users use Firefox and go to the following URL: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/ web_games_mac.htm)

Government - 4th Grade Curriculum

    Interactive fill in the blank game which tests your knowledge of the three branches of government. 
  • Ben's Guide
    Site provides basic information about the federal government.  Information is broken into K-2 and 3-5.
  • Kid's.gov
    Official Kids' Portal for the U.S. Government.  Includes links to a variety of sites with information on our government.
